Get to know Eran Rundstein (he/him) in our latest MobileCoin spotlight! Find out all about Eran, how he got into the cryptocurrency industry, and take a tour of his camper van build!
What’s your position at MobileCoin?
I’m a senior software engineer that has been with MobileCoin for over three years. I have been friends with Josh (MobileCoin’s CEO and Founder) and a few other MobileCoin employees for many years.
How did you find your way into the world of cryptocurrency?
I first heard about Bitcoin sometime around 2012, I think, very early on. I think it was mentioned to me in an IRC chatroom. It seemed like an interesting idea, but after a few failed attempts at obtaining some, I wrote it off and moved on. Turns out that was not my smartest move… fast forward a year or two later, and a lot of people around me were talking about it endlessly, but it was not until I learnt about MobileCoin from Josh that I started paying attention to cryptocurrencies.
How did you find out about MobileCoin?
Through Josh. He told me about this cool idea he had of a cryptocurrency that is actually usable and private. I was intrigued.
What’s your favorite thing about working at MobileCoin?
There are a few things, but if I had to pick one, it would be the people. MobileCoin has managed to bring together an impressive amount of super smart and capable people, that are also kind and actually care about each other. I get to work with people who are my friends (some from long before MobileCoin existed) and that is a rare thing.
What excites you most about the future of MobileCoin?
I feel like MobileCoin is only getting started. We have created some cool building blocks, and now we get to build better tools and experiences using those building blocks. With the technology we have created we are able to deliver people a payment experience that has unique benefits not currently available by any other payments system out there, and we are still at the very beginning of unleashing these experiences to the world.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I have always enjoyed building things, whether in the digital world or the real world – electronic design and manufacturing, wood work, welding, those kinds of things. Outside of work I help run a workshop/maker-space and use it to build my overly-engineered camper van. I also have a decent collection of synthesizers and drum machines, and every once in awhile I make an attempt at making music with them.
What would be your personal motto?
Keep learning new things and don’t be afraid to experiment.
Flashback to when you were 10-years-old. What did you want to be when you grow up?
I was into computers and figuring out how things work from a very early age, so while I don’t remember my thoughts about what I wanted to be when I grow up, I would guess it was something to do with those things.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Being able to remember everything I read and to be a very fast reader.
Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
I’ve been documenting my camper van build here, if you’re into that sort of thing.
