‘MobileCoin Heroes’ Grant Program Launches to Provide Safe Payment Options for Global NGOs

Today MobileCoin launched its humanitarian grant program, MobileCoin Heroes, available to global non-governmental organizations (NGOs) whose core mission is accelerated by MobileCoin’s technology. In addition, Faisal Saeed Al Mutar, founder and president of Ideas Beyond Borders (IBB), has been appointed as global NGO ambassador for MobileCoin to facilitate the identification and introductions of NGOs doing critical work.

The brainchild of MobileCoin founder and CEO Joshua Goldbard; MobileCoin Global Ambassador Dustin Boyer; and Al Mutar, the idea was first tested earlier this year with IBB, which translates, creates, and distributes content that inspires critical thinking, science, and civil rights in the Middle East. By paying in MOB, IBB is able to safely compensate its translators via private messaging platforms in parts of the world where their work is often illegal.

“Many NGOs who defend and uphold human rights operate in countries and areas where their work is dangerous,” said Al Mutar. “By using private and secure cryptocurrency payments in MOB, the MobileCoin digital currency, their critical work can be funded in a way that does not threaten their safety and existence. In short, it’s life changing.”

MobileCoin Heroes will focus on small experimental grants of $1,000 to human rights activists who are fighting for a better world.  Follow up grants of $5,000 will be awarded for successful experiments and $25,000 final grants will be awarded to exceptional organizations.
